Say thank you?

Thu Dec 18, 2008, 8:01 AM
Have you ever wanted to know why your constant favs meets no reply on your user page? But you are adding more and less beautiful photos and drawings, of well known artists to your collection every day. You realy love them and you even add 5 or more comments to get reply from an author. You say that photo/drawing is great and you are big fan of its author.

Why you have no reply for your sweet talks comments or simple "thank you for fav" on your user page? There are some good questions I think. If you are reading it you are probably thinking that I got problem with it. Nothing more confusing. I just wonder how do you feel when you fave almost every creation of your favourite artist on DA (lets add- well known, popular) and he/she dont even bother saying single thank you.

In my opinion the whole situation is rather comic. Lets imagine you were popular here, you were realy good, everybody loved your new deviations. You have added new piece just 3 hours ago and you have received 200 favs and 150 comments.

What do you do?
a) I visit every single member and you say "thanks for fav",
b) you shut down internet cause you are to tired of perspective of 150 replys and 200 of "thank you",
c) you pick most interesting(complex comments) and try to reply,
d) you may have other idea what to do with your time ,
Normal people would pick C, massohists - A. Dont ask me who are you if you picked B cause its not a test.

My point is: If you are faving an art of popular deviant dont count on reply or "thank you". Same thing refers to watch. Brutal but true. Does it mean they dont give a shit about you. Without you they wouldnt have been popular. But they are also people like you- they work, study, got friends and family and they may not have time to spent it on teh internet. So I think they notice all of those favs but they cant show every single person appreciate.

Not-popular deviants who got 5 faves on deviation can afford to reply.

Problem is more complex if you want to ask something a popular artist on DA ( for example a tehnique he used etc.). What does it mean if he/she wont reply. Do they have lot of those messages and dont even bother to reply, or they are lazy? I thing after reading previous paragraph you can make your own answer.

I will leave you with that question. If you made threw my boring journal you may want to share your opinion with me?

They aren't lazy, I personaly would do c) if i had, although I did thank everyone for my fav's on my DD and my other really popular piece (bit sad, and it took me a LOOOONG time).

Of course they care what people think, and tbh I recon they would reply to most well phrased and respectful help requests, but at the same time they don't have the time to go and teach everyone everything. I dunno lol.

I agree, I used to be an A person but I've learnt that C is the best option. I usually look at the person who has favourited my work and see what they have done, perhaps return the favour.

I quite often feel gratified whenever someone who I consider to be more talented than me favourites one of my pieces, so I might comment to say that.

Apart from that, I think that what you say makes sense. Expecting a response for every favourite or comment you leave is redundant. It leads you down the path of favouriting things you don't really like and aren't very good, just to get a response.

I also try to visit profile of people who faved one of my pieces. Not speeking of all, but I am at this stage that I feel obliged to say thank you for those fews favs I get. I am always happy someone liked it.

Point of this journal was something I got in my mind for quite of time. We can afford "thanks" if our audience is small. Lets imagine elected president thanking each elector in his country. That would be nonsence.

thanks for sharing Simon
I didnt realy think of they have to teach everyone, but I get your point Alastair.
Having lot of favs and question comments have to be painfull.
I have just thought of what I should write about next time. I decided to keep journals more compendious, since I am realy slow in adding new stuff to gallery, to not disappoint people who watch me XD.
Pretty good thought... I do not thank everyone I receive a fav of, even though I don't get that many. I guess, more than favs I like comments. And to questions and good comments I always answer - because I believe people should share ideas, and some pictures might need explanation.

On the other hand, I don't expect people to thank me for faving their works. If you like something, you add it to your collection - it is not about anything else to me.

I'd probably do c) or d) - a lot of the time I just close the page because I am too tired to produce anything...

~It seems every thought has been thought and all that is left is to collect the pieces and present them in a different order.~

-anything for money-
True say. I would also like more comments than favs (not that I dont appreciate for them). Constructive criticism, well written, can be realy helpfull. I guess we all have lot to improve in our art and none is perfect artist.
It would be nice if people could provide such comments more.

I agree with you about sharing ideas. Something we think its obvious, may not be clear to audience. So its always good to ask I think.
